Yoga for the Soul

I was first introduced to yoga in college; since I was pregnant and could not do physical sports such as basketball or volleyball for an extracurricular credit, the only other option was to take the daily yoga class. I had no previous experience in doing yoga and honestly I wasn't sure what to expect. To my surprise after a few weeks of yoga, I really started to enjoy it! I liked how yoga helped me relax and the more I practiced yoga, the more I felt at peace with myself and my body.

Throughout the years after college, I practiced yoga on and off but never took it very seriously. I'd either take a random class at the gym to switch up my exercise routine or give myself a quick moment of relaxation at home. I recently started a new yoga journey and this time around my goal is to focus on being able to do all of the positions with ease by simply SLOWING DOWN - slowing down my breath, slowing down my poses, slowing down my mental processes. I know this will take some time and a lot of practice. One of the most amazing things that yoga has taught me is to slow down in life - to savor each and every moment. My focus for the next two weeks is strengthening the core muscles by concentrating on the abs. Every two weeks, I'll change my focus to a new area of the body and as always end my yoga sessions with Shavasana - the ultimate relaxation pose.

I will keep you updated on my progress and learnings along the way. My hope is that I can inspire others to start on a yoga journey for themselves, or even just start the journey to deeper self awareness and mindfulness.
